It was a long way down to the dungeon depths. They dragged the bloody wreckage that once was human down the many age worn steps. Every step jarred his wounds. He had been stripped of armour and clothing. He was unable to speak, his mouth gagged with his own bloody parts, his lips sewn tightly together. He was cast into the oubliette. He landed on the bones and filth of his victims. Unable to move, bleeding, his limbs were wrecked and broken. The agony was searing. The stench of decay in this chamber of horror was overpowering. He watched as the stone door above him slowly ground back in place. The fading light of the torches above was the last thing he would ever see. Absolute darkness and silence was imposed. Tears ran down his face in pain and fear. The dark enclosed him, like a suffocating blanket. Something ancient and evil stirred in the slimy darkness. It was the vast shade in the eternal night, below the earth and beyond the stars, haunting the worlds of the living and the dead, of time and space in gibbering insanity. It thirsted for him, to quench its throat, dry with the dust of ages. It would drink deeply of his corrupt soul. But it could wait. Death would surely come soon. But first would come madness. What things it would show him! A high pitched scream slowly built in intensity, like the scurrying of insects innumerable that crawled and clawed inside his skull.
